In 2016 the “Managing Money” project consortium interviewed 28 adult educators and financial education experts in Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, United Kingdom, Slovenia and Switzerland to explore useful resources and existing curricula, but also to get a better understanding on the target group and teaching approach. The outcome is this report which – to our knowledge – is the first collaborative European effort looking into how financial education interventions are shaped most effectively. The document extends on the policy principles communicated by European Commission in 2007.
This document will provide decision-makers in adult education, social welfare and consumer education as well as other interested readers with an up-to-date picture on financial literacy: What competence frameworks and curricula exist to build financial literacy? Which national programmes are being implemented and how, e.g. “WikiFin” in the Netherlands? What types of teaching and learning materials are available online? The report will also give an overview on the diverse landscapes of organisations and institutions that shape financial education in our seven partner countries (locally, regionally or nationally).
